Walter Raponi

 

Walter Raponi completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo in Ontario obtaining a bachelor of Environmental Studies (B.ES.) in 1990 while maintaining a place on the Dean’s Honour List throughout.

After a brief period in the “work force” Walter entered law school at Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S. and completed his LLB as a visiting student at the University of Alberta in 1994.

Walter articled with Tarrabain and Company on graduation and has remained with the firm since that time. His practice is restricted exclusively to the area of Criminal Defence which places him in Alberta’s courtrooms on a daily basis. Walter has ably represented clients at all levels of court in Alberta as well as Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

A strong supporter of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Walter believes in the proper representation of all individuals in our justice system regardless of the allegations in question, or social / economic background of an accused person. Walter has defended all manner of cases from simple theft and fraud to 1st degree murder with a strong emphasis in narcotics cases under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. He is a long time member of the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA).

Lynn M. Rideout

 

Lynn Marie Rideout is an Alberta girl who has lived all over the country, but always returns to her home Province of Alberta!

She is very proud to add her name to the firm she has had so much joy and fulfilment to be a part of for more than 20 years.

After completing her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at the University of Alberta in 1988, Lynn Marie intended to fulfill her adolescent aspirations to study law. However, shortly after graduating, Lynn was forced to temporarily suspend these aspirations and enter the workforce.

Nevertheless, her education continued while she worked in the legal profession for 17 years before going back to law school. Indeed, Lynn has long been an integral part of the firm, wherein she developed her skills by preparing legal arguments for our lawyers and assuming general management responsibilities for the firm starting in 1997.

Eventually, Lynn found her way back to the University of Alberta and earned her Bachelor of Laws in 2005.

Lynn's years at the Bar are enhanced by the breadth of experience and legal knowledge that Lynn has gained over the many years she was employed in the legal profession prior. Still, Lynn has an appetite for learning and continues to attend regularly at Legal Education Society of Alberta seminars and conferences to keep herself current with legal developments and new practice initiatives.

Throughout her career, Lynn has appeared and assisted other counsel in all levels of court in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.

Lynn is a fierce advocate in criminal trials and appeals, and provides high-quality services in the areas of wills and estates. Her unmatched versatility complements her extensive experience and ensures that our clients will be afforded full protection from injustice.

Sharon Tarrabain BA LLB

 

Sharon graduated from the University of Alberta Law in 1990. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1991.

Sharon practices in the area of Personal Injury Litigation. She has been representing plaintiffs in motor vehicle accident litigation for over 25 years. She is dedicated to protecting the rights of her clients.

Sharon is a member of the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association.

Kathy Tarrabain

 

Born and raised in Alberta, Kathy Tarrabain obtained both her undergraduate and law degree from the University of Alberta. She commenced her articles to Sid M. Tarrabain, Q.C., of Tarrabain & Company, in 1992, and has continued to practice with his firm. Through her early years she gained experience in most areas of law including trial work.

Today, her principal areas of practice are Personal Injury, Real Estate - Residential and Commercial, Refinancing, Corporate Commercial, and Wills and Estates. She is a long standing member of the Alberta Civil Lawyers Association and is actively involved in her community. Kathy believes in continued education and her and her assistants attend regular seminars to keep current with legal developments and changes in the areas of law she and her assistants practice. To better serve our clients Kathy opened the Southside office in 2002 and the Westend office in 2006.

Simon Trela

 

Simon Trela was born in Poland. When he was 11 years old he was forced to leave his native land due to problems his family was facing with the Communist regime. He lived for three years in a refugee camp in Germany. He arrived in Canada in 1992. Simon attended University Hill Secondary in Vancouver, BC. He later attended Univeristy of Alberta where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in German Literature in 2001. Shortly after that Simon was accepted to University of Alberta Law School from which he graduated in 2004. Simon was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2006.

It is Simon's personal experiences, which he does not always remember as pleasant, that have inspired Simon to practise predominantly in the area of Immigration Law. Simon practices in all areas of immigration law including: Foreign workers, Refugee Law, Deportation Appeals, Sponsorship Appeals, Judicial Reviews. Simon represents a very large volume of Canadian employers who continue to take advantage of the Foreign Worker program.

He was Chair of the Citizenship and Immigration Alberta Northern Section from 2010-2012. Simon has provided advice to the Media and also appeared on CTV news where he offered his opinions on several legislative topics in areas of Immigration law. Simon continues to appear on the Polish radio in Edmonton where he updates members of his Polish Community on any developments in that area.

Simon also practices criminal law and has successfuly defended clients involved in serious criminal charges.

Simon speaks English, Polish, German and Russian and would be very pleased to serve you in any of those languages.

Jordan Bienert

 

Born and raised on a farm outside of New Sarepta, Alberta, Jordan Bienert attended the University of Alberta, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts (With Distinction) in Psychology and then a Law degree. After beginning his career in Calgary, Jordan relocated back to Edmonton where he has practised in the areas of Family and Criminal law since 2005.

Jordan has appeared in the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Appeal. Practising primarily in Edmonton, he has appeared in multiple communities across central and northern Alberta, including Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, Hinton, and Leduc. Today Jordan’s primary focus is in the area of Family Law, assisting his clients with issues including custody and access, child support, spousal support, property division, as well as with applications under the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act, such as Supervision Order Applications and Temporary or Permanent Guardianship Applications. Dedicated and compassionate, Jordan is able to assist individuals with any of their Family Law needs, whether through negotiation, alternative dispute resolution or Court action. He is currently accepting new files and can generally meet with potential clients within forty eight hours of their initial telephone call to Tarrabain Raponi & Company.

Mark Jordan

 

Mark Jordan is originally from Victoria and completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Victoria. He moved to Edmonton for law school where he completed his law degree at the University of Alberta. Mark was heavily involved in extracurricular activities while in law school. Most notably, he was Vice President of the Law Students’ Association.

Mark has a passion for criminal law and protecting the rights of people who are criminally charged. In law school, he was the recipient of the Alberta Crown Attorney’s Association Prize in Criminal Procedure. He appears in court almost daily where he regularly resolves matters and conducts bail hearings. He has also run the following one or more times: trials, preliminary hearings, curative discharge hearings, and emergency protection order oral hearings.

Mark has represented clients charged with a variety of criminal offences including: attempted murder, sexual assault, aggravated assault, assault, robbery, break & enter, theft, impaired driving, weapons offences, and drug trafficking.
